Mike's Guiding Principles

Cost effective engineering and leadership solutions for onshore Oil and Gas operators

Focused on the following four principles:
  1. Minimize restrictions between the reservoir and sales
  2. Maximize production of Oil and Gas
  3. Follow safety, industry, and regulatory standards
  4. Eliminate waste

Consulting Projects

Deleware Basin Production Engineering:
1. ESP surveillance and remediation
2. Lease holding wellbore integrity review

Work History

BP Jan 2010 to Current
Senior Production Engineer (Wamsutter WY)
  • Added $900,000 in potential NPV through wellwork and plunger optimization in Q1 2017
  • Developed slickline and swabbing process reducing cycle time by 50% by eliminating inefficient processes Created novel artificial lift approach to highly deviated small casing using special coated tubing to reduce friction
  • Reduced cycle time from 8 hours to 3 hours through standardization of wellwork procedures
  • Designed 15 gas lift installs for early life horizontal wells and highly deviated S-shaped wells
  • Directing produciton six engineers on priority and coaching

New Well Delivery (NWD) & Salt Water Disposal (SWD) Team Leader (Wamsutter WY)
Jan 2014 to December 2016
  • Led NWD & SWD Engineering and Operations Staff
  • Delivered safely over 200 newly drilled wells in regulatory compliance
  • Reduced tubing install start from three months to one day (introduced snubbing)
  • Reduced artificial lift install time from one year to three months through early liquid loading identification
  • Introduced three new types of artificial lift to Wamsutter field (Beam Pump, Piston Pump, ESP)
  • Increased Ops efficiency from 70% to 90%+ on-time through rigorous weekly accountability meetings
  • Brought forward value in SWD by increasing skim oil sales frequency and decreasing evap pond cleaning frequency through evaluation of what is needed vs. what is wanted

Production Engineer (Durango CO)
Jan 2010 to Jan 2014
  • Set artificial lift and compression strategy – decreased cost by 20%, reduced install time by 80% through mapping process and eliminating inefficiency, rebidding contracts, and installed 30+ beam pumps
  • Designed and optimized artificial lift – increased run life by 30% through standardization and RCFA
  • Wrote well intervention procedures – flattened decline curve for ~350 wells, overcame 10% avg. decline through monthly well-by-well reviews and accountability follow-up
  • Forecasted production – standardized short term forecasting for ~1300 wells to identify wells deviating from predicted production, set capacity metrics for the field
  • Optimized surface pipeline – increased rate by 20% for lateral through a previously unidentified gathering point.
  • Other supporting activities: well inflow performance analysis, pressure transient analysis, Coal Bed Methane (CBM), and refrac design

CONOCOPHILLIPS
Drillsite Petroleum Engineering Intern (Anchorage, AK)
Summer 2009
  • Analyzed fracture stimulations for factors leading to successful treatment and proposed new candidates
Reservoir Intern (Farmington, NM)
Summer 2008
  • Found fracture half-length and permeability using rate transient analysis for tight gas wells in the SJ Basin
  • Determined best match for fracture treatment to formation type

AERA ENERGY LLC
Heavy Oil Engineering Intern (Bakersfield, CA)
Summer 2007
  • Monitored and Evaluated Solvent Assisted Steam Injection
  • Monitored and Evaluated Mitigation of Microbiologically-Induced H2S through Nitrate treatment

ENSIGN Drilling
Floorhand (Vernal, UT)
Summer 2006
  • Pulled slips, threw tongs, and greased swivel
  • Maintained and cleaned rig
